But Aki did care about his birthday—showed up to the alley on the 11th last month boasting a small box with a new wallet in it. And, begrudgingly, Shinjiro can admit he cares about Aki’s, too.
Planning for it would be easier, though, if Aki wasn’t so obtusely unconcerned with his own birthday. When they were kids, that had been different. Aki used to have things he liked, things he’d say he wanted. He’d feed Shinjiro ideas, too; dreams of having toys he’d see on TV and throwing a big birthday bash in the dining hall.
But back then Shinjiro was a kid too, one that lacked the wherewithal to do anything with that information. He did his best, sure, slipped messages to the caretaker staff, but those dreams would only ever manifest as a few cards and balloons and pancakes for dessert.
It’s Akihiko’s birthday, and Shinjiro doesn’t know what to get him.

Summary
It's rough, living in his father's old castle. Giorno does his best to collect the wealth of knowledge his dad and his father passed to him, about human and vampire discoveries respectively.
It's good that he doesn't have to do it alone.
Narancia Ghirga has been a grounding rock in the mess that has been picking up the pieces of Giorno's old life. The two are inseparable now, to the point where sometimes Narancia knows Giorno a little better than he knows himself.
