    A bad timeline AU where Ghetsis wins and captures N as a bargaining chip against Hilbert. The dragon of ideals has returned to its stone form at the loss of its hero, and the only way Hilbert can guarantee N won’t be executed for treason is by surrendering Reshiram, which upon this deal also returns to its stone form. While Ghetsis had promised N’s life, he never specified exactly what would happen to N.

    Truthfully, Ghetsis had expected Hilbert to refuse the deal and execute N before the hero’s very eyes- he did not expect Hilbert to crumble so instantly to his demands. N still has a use in serving Plasma, however. With the regional takeover imminent, it’s important to amass an army of powerful Pokemon to subjugate Unova’s people with. N shall now serve Plasma not as a king, but as breeding stock to contribute to the cause.

    Gaia can't be saved, Jenova's poison too far reaching and Sephiroth tied too closely to her Chosen One. Unable to break that bond, she chooses to steer into it. She completes their bond fully and sends Cloud back in time. This time, if one is killed, the other is halved. Cloud can work with that.

    Sephiroth gains knowledge of this bond in vague dreams. A blonde warrior who is a sight to behold, but whose death would mean his own. If he is real, he must protect him at all costs.

    Too bad nobody told Cloud what Sephiroth wants.

    Or; that one time-travel fic where Cloud is just trying to save Gaia whilst avoiding Sephiroth until last. Sephiroth is just trying to find and protect the blonde warrior whose life is inexplicably tied to his own.
