Summary
It’s a cold spring in 1897, just before the century turns, and the reclusive Professor Henry Hidgens has sent out coveted invitations to the Hatchetfield Symposium. This is no mere academic conference, however- it’s a party, a meeting of minds, one of the most secretive social events of the decade! Among those lucky few invited is one Paul Matthews, a milquetoast reporter for the Hatchetfield Post with nothing whatsoever to recommend him for the honor. It must be a mistake, the invitation meant for someone else- it could never actually be for Paul! But Paul’s editor insists he must attend, and he arrives to a collection of eclectic personalities and notable names. At first confused, then frightened, over the week of his stay Paul begins to recognize a much more sinister force than a postal mistake is at work on the Hidgens Estate, and that these violent delights may, indeed, have their promised violent ends.
