Summary
Before there was Forest Hills in Hawkins, Indiana, there was Waters Bluff in Savannah, Georgia. Eddie Munson spends his youngest, most vulnerable years here in the care of his Uncle Wayne, only to find himself torn away to live with Al Munson in Indiana. Years pass, Eddie nearly dies, and then he makes the most of life when he makes it big with Corroded Coffin. It’s only when they hit a rough patch of creator’s block that Steve Harrington suggests he return to the past to find his spark.

“Well, they can still win, right? There’s a lot of time left. I think?”
“That’s rule number one, Ed,” Steve nods and stares at the screen, focused and distant— the kind of stare that tells Eddie he’s not talking about just the game. “Always assume the game you’re planning can be won. If you go into it thinking that losing is a possibility, then you’re gonna lose. Even if you’ve gotta rewrite the rules of the game yourself, you gotta convince yourself you can win.”
The commentator seems to respond to Steve directly. “And that’s three strikes for Tommy Hagan for the fourth at-bat in a row. If this Dodgers team has a prayer of making the playoffs, it rests solely on Steve Harrington making it back in time.”
Eddie feels Steve squeeze his hand tighter.
Or, Professional Baseball Shortstop Steve Harrington injures his UCL and returns home to Indiana for treatment. Cue massage therapist Eddie Munson whose tender, practiced touch heals much more than Steve's elbow.

"I have never been more confused in my life than when I'm with you. Nancy inhaled slowly as she took a meaningful step towards him. Steve's eyes flickered back over to her instinctively, and he got a firsthand view of how her face had crumpled, eyes wide and shining and worried. "Steve," Nancy said, slow, gentle, quiet, like she was trying to calm a cornered wild animal. "None of us said those things."
Steve's mouth opened, words piling on the tip of his tongue: what, so I was just hallucinating, then? he wanted to ask, nearly did ask, and then he realized—heart stopping in his chest and the floor very suddenly feeling like it had been ripped out beneath him—that was exactly what was happening.
Steve's jaw shut with a click.
"Oh," Steve breathed shakily. Oh, fuck.
Vecna curses Steve. As you could imagine, it isn't a very good time.

“Sure. Just, ah…don’t expect much in the way of entertainment,” Steve grumbles.
“You can just sit there and look pretty, how’s that? Won’t be hard for you,” Eddie replies, smooth.
Steve’s cheeks heat up again.

A traumatic brain injury leads to a downward spiral for Steve. He's dropped from the Blackhawks, his recovery is slow and rocky, and he's got no idea what to do with his life.
Enter his old friends, Eddie and Dustin, who spend their time poking around decrepit haunted locations filming for their YouTube channel. Steve doesn't really believe in all this ghost stuff, but he's got nothing better to do than join them.
Besides, he might just be ever-so-slightly head-over-heels for Eddie Munson.
