Summary
—but don't tell anyone what you saw here.
And through it all the same voice, the one that nestled in his spine and spoke of rage and vengeance, that he denied in thought and action and even in memory until its will met and matched his own, and won free.
This is what you wanted, it said. Don’t you see?
This is why you called me.
The plight of her comrades has drawn the Warrior of Light to the First. In her absence, her enemies are emboldened; her allies, disheartened.
They say that on the cusp of a new Calamity, a new Warrior will rise...
But if a hero is made, who is it that does the making?

Summary
He thought then, strangely enough, as a dash of moonlight dappled over his bedcovers, that mayhap the blade of knowledge—which he held close and continued to sharpen, upon the tip of which he had chosen to tread, that seemed every moment closer to discovery (and with it the accusations )—was double-edged.
That he rasped the whetstone against the tool of his own destruction.
The seduction and corruption of Father Aymeric, the Very Reverend Archimandrite of Hemlock Abbey.

Summary
The pixies take Urianger's voice. Thancred and Ryne help, but not really.
“Say something.” Thancred wants to take a step back, maybe turn around, maybe leave entirely because whatever else has been between them, silence has never been it. Not this charged thing. His heart courses in his chest with every moment more that it stretches. “Gods damn you, you ridiculous—” He pushes into Urianger’s space instead, grabs him by what passes for the collar of his stupid robe. The jewelry that graces Urianger’s every limb tinkles like glass as he braces himself on the table behind him, eyes going suddenly wide, “—talk to me!”
Nothing. He says nothing. Urianger’s gaze shifts to the hand nearly at his throat and then catches on Thancred's lips before their eyes meet. A smile that’s only half in humor twists his mouth, and then, at last, it opens—
And closes without a sound.

Summary
A blade has a certain universal utility, it’s true. The thin edge gleams in a way that is recognized by the hindbrain; survival jolts within her as she looks at it and she knows, this can hurt.
But she can hurt too. Her wings spread and it’s the good kind of ache; her feathers stretch in the sun and they, too, can cut.
