Summary
The issue with helping Lestat fine-tune his lyrics, Louis was finding, had nothing to do with them butting heads while collaborating. Lestat was all gratitude when Louis offered edits, and he often incorporated his suggestions into the final product. Louis, for his part, felt honored to be consulted because he knew how intentional Lestat was with his art, knew how private it was deep down.
That was exactly why Louis had to suck his teeth while reading Lestat’s latest draft.
“You don’t like it,” Lestat observed from where he stood across his kitchen island. His tone was carefully measured, but not careful enough to hide the apprehension from Louis. Never from Louis.

Louis’ pulse pounds when Lestat begins to crawl up the length of his body.
“It’s working, unlike your new relationship. You claim to love these philosophical debates, but ‘tis but a matter of time until that turns to resentment. It all ends in resentment, doesn’t it?”

Summary
Louis looks up from his newspaper at that, his beautiful green eyes passing over his form as though just noticing he was dressed in something other than his smoking robe. Once, Louis could scarcely keep his hands off a Lestat dressed in proper 20th century attire for a night on the town, and he remembers that many a plan had been postponed or outright forgotten for more carnal, intimate endeavors.
“So if my considerable considerables continue to be squandered…”
Lestat pauses a moment, expectant, but after a beat, Louis turns his remorseless gaze back to his research. Lestat feels the scowl tighten his face before he’s fully aware of it himself, takes up his jacket again, and crosses their loveless bedroom to meet his loveless lover down below.
“Wait.”

The answering heat in Lestat’s gaze killed the follow-up before Louis could give it voice.

There’s a faint click of a locking phone, then Eddie hears the sound of it harmlessly hitting the mattress. He has to press his smile to the back of his neck, flattered by Richie’s readiness to turn his undivided attention to Eddie.
