“O…kay,” he says with a slow nod. “Weird.”
And then he gets on the floor, too. Lays down next to her, close enough that his cheek just about touches the edge of her sprawled-out shawl.

He craves a life with her, whether that’s spent leisurely on the grounds of this very estate, or entertaining the ton at his townhome in London, or traveling Europe together once her daughters have married off. ~~~

How Roman consistently gets to Gerri’s phone before she does, she’ll never understand. He’s become her personal messenger service, announcing incoming calls and texts which she sometimes thinks is a dig at her age—implying she can’t see very well, hear very well, or both—and other times just his latest attempt at finding another way to simultaneously annoy and charm her all in one go.
“I’ll take that,” she swipes the phone from his open palm, ignoring the questioning look in his eyes as she heads toward the stairs. Who’s Kathy? Wouldn’t he like to know.
It isn’t every day that Gerri receives a call from one of her sisters. Isn’t even every week, or every month. Someone would have to be dying or dead for Deborah to reach out to her.

“I can get you there,” she promises and there’s a loaded meaning to her words that Roman instantly understands. It's the conversation they’ve never properly had, only ever beating around the bush. He’s been reluctant to call himself Brutus until now, to contemplate the idea of willingly pushing out his father. Part of him always imagined Kendall would do that - after all, he had already tried once.
But him and Gerri? Though wasn’t that what ‘Rockstar and the Molewoman’ had been all about? That conversation feels like a world away from this. No. This is about more than keeping him as COO. There’s something in the way Gerri’s looking at him that tells Roman this is so, so much more than that.
This is a plot to usurp his ageing father from the throne. A plot to takeover Waystar Royco - together.

Fair warning that this delves into soap opera-level plot territory at several points (this story has everything---pandemic, car accident, Gerri's POV on Big Events and the likely real-world consequences of how stressful her job has been for the past 30 years) but ultimately it is a Nice Gay Lady Thing and all of us queer Gerri fans deserve that.
