Kirk wakes up in Sickbay missing the last 3 years of his life. He can't remember graduating the from Starfleet Academy, becoming captain of the Enterprise or marrying the Vulcan that tried to have him expelled for academic dishonesty.
Kirk has amnesia and doesn't remember anything past the hearing after Kobayashi Maru test... especially bonding with Spock. Spock is understanding and doesn't try to pressure Kirk back into a relationship and instead uses this as a chance to woo his t'hy'la the same way Jim wooed him.

“Goddammit Jim! I know you're awake!”
Kirk rolls his eyes under his eyelids before they flutter open. He squints against the harsh lights of the sickbay,“Hey Bones. What's up?”
McCoy's face turns a very interesting shade of red as he glares at his idiotic friend, who is currently lying on a biobed, frustration and fright clear on the doctor’s face.“What's up?! WHAT'S UP?! I'll tell you what's up! I just spent four hours piecing you back to-goddamn-gether because you, yet again, nearly got yourself killed,” bellows McCoy.
Kirk pushes himself up so that his upper body is resting against the big, fluffy sickbay pillows. He gives the irate doctor his most innocent expression as he mutters, “Sorry?” Kirk follows this lacklustre apology with a shrug, which causes McCoy to turn a shade redder… if that was even possible.
Kirk keeps injuring himself to protect Spock and Spock is over it.
