Miles smiles again, his red eyes ablaze with anger and determination. Scar leans toward him without realizing it, a bit entranced.
“I’ll tell you about it later,” he says to Scar’s disappointment. “In the meantime, I’m on vacation.”
“I didn’t know Briggs men knew that word.”
Miles lets out a surprised and amused chuckle.
“Look at you cracking jokes. I don’t know if it’s Mei or the city, but you seem much more relaxed.”
“That’s how I feel,” he says simply.
Miles stares at him with earnest eyes.
“I’m glad to hear that, Scar.”

As Scar showed Mei how to cook Ishvalan specialties, he was reminded of those moments spent in the kitchen with his family, too busy teasing his brother and handing spices to his mother to be bothered by the heavy heat of the oven. Remembering those happy times used to be devastating; now it was bittersweet, the pain softened by Mei’s happy smile and bright eyes as they were creating new memories of their own.

The warmth and the explosion of flavors he’d half-forgotten spreading into his mouth and coating his tongue is almost too much to handle, and it’s the best thing he remembers ever eating. Al beams through his tears and takes another slice, then another, and another, until his belly hurts and he throws up later in the evening.

Summary
The man is laying on the carpet in a sea of blood and broken glass, his mouth open in a silent scream. The woman is slumped against the bed, dead eyes staring into the void and red oozing out of her head. The blood is fresh, the bodies warm – they died only minutes ago.
Finn leans against the door frame, shaking. Once again, he’s too late. Once again, he’s failed. And once again, Kylo Ren has killed, each victim making him stronger than before. Finn clenches his fists as hard as he can, knuckles whitening and nails digging painfully into his palms.
He cries.

Shuri skids to a stop in front of the bedroom’s door, suddenly hesitant to enter. A terrible revelation lies behind the wooden panel, and she doesn’t think she’s ready to hear it. Not now. Not ever.
She bends slightly and presses her ear against the door, palms leaning flat against the carved patterns. The wood is thick, but not thick enough to conceal her mother’s sobs. They echo faintly in the hallway, each cry breaking Shuri’s heart bit by bit.
She has never seen or heard her Mama cry.
Dread twisting her guts, she pushes the door open with a shaking hand. Please, Bast, please, she prays fervently. She doesn’t articulate what exactly she fears, despite it weighing on her chest like a boulder, but she knows that Bast can read her heart.

“Princess Rey Skywalker of Alderaan requests a meeting with you, Your Majesty,” she announces in a flat voice.
“Let her in.”
Finn hears quick footsteps, a telltale sign of Rey approaching. He gets up in a rush, heart thumping in his chest, and smoothes imaginary wrinkles on his silk shirt. He knows it’s stupid, she’s never been one to care about appearances, but he still wants to look good in front of her.

She had also insisted on having the date happen in a fancy place, so Scott is wearing an expensive dark suit and his favourite red tie. But he just got stood up by his blind date and all he wants to do is go home, eat pizza and sleep. But just when he’s about to get up and leave, a small tornado enters the restaurant, almost trips on her own feet, and finally stops before him, sitting at his table.
