Summary
This has become a weekly ritual for them. One of them will stay outside of the 7-Eleven, while the other will scavenge the shelves for some late-night sustenance. Sometimes, it'll be their faithful rotation of chips and microwavable meals, and other times, it'll be a surprise item that tastes absolutely horrible, but they'll laugh about the acid stinging their tongues, anyways.
Neither of them acknowledge these outings under the scrutiny of the Sun, and she's okay with this silence, with simultaneously not knowing and knowing far too much.
Sometimes love unfolds in a 7-Eleven parking lot at an ungodly hour.

Coy sits on the rooftop with his knees tucked under his chin and a window pressed against his back. A nondescript bottle of booze sits next to him, acting like an unorthodox friend. Rose flushes his cheeks, his pupils swallow evergreen irises, and his hair makes the impression that he's been standing in high-speed winds. He looks like the stereotypical drunk. Anthony would find it endearing if he wasn't worried sick.
"Coy," Anthony breathes.

On the other hand, for the popular kids, high school is the peak of a mountain they reached via a gondola, untouched and unscathed. They have it easy for now, but there’s no way higher. They’ll look back on this period of time and sigh wistfully, claiming that these were the glory days, the days spent skipping class behind the bleachers and bruising their peers for no good reason.
So, if anything, Stephanie pities the popular kids, but sometimes she wonders how nice it would be to ride a goddamn gondola.
And she actually does end up hitching a ride—in the form of a shaky and unsteady Peter Spankoffski sitting in front of her apartment complex.

There were so many moments they had lived through—breath-taking, exhilarating, devastating, freeing moments that remained undocumented. Moments that only were recorded in the crevices of Nellie’s mind, even ones that she may have wanted to share with the world but was taken away too soon to fulfill her hope.
It was fascinating. It was terrifying.
