Rey learns it on her skin the day she curses Ben.
“I curse you, Ben Solo. Whatever you love the most in this world– you'll lose it.” Then, with a sad sort of smile, she adds, “It shouldn't be a problem, since you don't seem able to love anything.”
-- or: after he betrays her and leaves her to work for their enemy, Rey curses Ben to lose the thing he loves the most in the world. Then, a few days later, she starts to die.
