I’ve never had a fanfic address the grief that comes with never knowing someone, so many people in my family have died before I’ve ever know them, it’s such a difficult grief to process. I never understood how I could miss someone I’ve never seen and never known. I fear to ask about the dead because the living are still grieving and maybe it’s selfish to want to learn about someone I wasn’t ever going to meet, if learning about them means hurting my grieving family. It’s an awful feeling in my gut being compared to people my family loved and having no idea who they were and how I’m like them.
Maybe I should write my college essay on this.
