Summary
There is a world in which people's souls are made manifest, taking the form of a creature who walks the world beside them—these creatures are called dæmon.
Imogen has lived half her life with a dæmon that shows the world her soul is a wild and frightening thing and ever since she started seeing the strange-true images in other’s heads, she’s been thinking they might be right. Laudna’s cursed or evil, if rumours are to be believed. Her dæmon is unsettled, and as unsettling as she is. Maybe he always will be. But maybe the way souls appear is not how they are, Imogen thinks, because she’s never met anyone better than that strange pair.
A chance encounter at the start of the school year takes them across the country and years as they figure out who they are, to themselves and to one another.

Summary
In venturing into the world with Imogen, Laudna had flourished. She was a natural when she was appreciated properly. She’d made friends for them in a way Imogen never would have by herself, had found a group of weirdos who were better off together. She had rejoined the world and made it better with her presence.
Their life together had very quickly progressed from friends to best friends/platonic soulmates. Although she struggled relentlessly with the platonic part.
Imogen was desperately, achingly in love with her. She had fallen from that very first smile and had concussed herself on every single branch on the way down. And the only person who didn’t know about it was Laudna.

In which Imogen and Laudna get their cottage, and it’s a house in the Windowed Wall, a found family who love them, and a repurposed cast of characters. Or: Imogen loves Laudna, a Modern AU.

They were in a minor city, the nearest one to her hometown. Imogen had always thought it was a more tolerant place, more cosmopolitan, but it turned out that was only when compared to Gelvaan.
Imogen could feel the curiosity that surrounded them when they first arrived. How it turned to suspicion and etched closer to fear with each passing day. Less than a month ago, she left home and resigned herself to this life on the road. Laudna had warned her of the stares she gathered, the fearful whispers that surrounded her.
It was one thing to know it, and quite another to live it.
In the early days of their travels, Laudna and Imogen take a break from chasing storms to see the biggest ball of twine in Exandria, and Imogen learns more about her mysterious companion.

And now the stone has been broken and whatever was between them - which had felt so strong, so stable, which they've both been relying on - has taken its first hit.
