Summary
There was a knocking at the door. At 2 PM. Emma wondered if maybe she ordered pizza in a complete blackout, or maybe it was a missionary who would probably start laughing as soon as she opened the door. After a few more knocks, Emma finally got up from her desk and opened it. She didn’t find a pizza man, or anyone in a suit holding a book. Instead, she found a crying teen girl on her doorstep.
“Oh, did I get the wrong apartment? I thought he still lived here. Shoot. Um, do you know where Paul Matthews lives? I think he used to live in this apartment.”
“Yeah he should be home from work in like a few hours. Come on in.”
As soon as Alice stepped into the apartment, it was clear that the woman had convinced Paul to do some decorating.

'The boy clears his throat expectantly, and Paul realises he’s still waiting at the doorstep. He hastily apologises and opens the door, hesitantly letting the kid inside. He may not look like a hooligan, but he’s still a Spankoffski. Paul watches as the boy removes his shiny black shoes and places them neatly beside him.
“So, uh… ‘Petey’, was it?” Paul asks, then winces at the deadpan look the child shoots him. Aren’t kids supposed to be happy?
“Peter,” the boy corrects stiffly, adjusting his bow tie. “My friends call me Pete.” He stops, tilting his head. “Well. Ruth calls me Pete.”'
