“What?”
Luke stares at his sister, eyes blown wide, wondering if he’s misheard her. But she stares back with her “serious Senator” face, and Luke knows he's heard her perfectly.
“You don’t have to agree, but out of the eligible bachelors tied to the New Republic, the suitor’s advisors found you to be the most suitable,” Leia explains.
For some reason, Luke’s mind refuses to process this information. He plops himself into a cushy white chair in Leia’s office.
“I mean, it sounds like the decision’s already been made, hasn’t it?”

During an annual political summit, Luke Skywalker is chosen for a political marriage to a man he won’t meet until his wedding day. Soon afterwards, he meets a Mandalorian in the same predicament, and Luke is pulled to him like a moth to a flame.
Inevitably, what starts friendly quickly turns into more. And as Luke falls deeper and deeper into a doomed love affair, he must decide for himself what duty—and love—mean to him.

Summary
He glances down to the word ‘LOVE’ at the bottom. It’s too loud, too harshly written. Alex doesn’t feel harsh or loud. He feels a lot, so much it’s overwhelming sometimes, but the edges are soft, not hard. There’s a glow around it, something hazy and barely tinted gold, and Alex feels like if he could reach out and put his hands near it, they would warm up like they used to when he stood in front of the old brick fireplace back home.
He glances at ‘LOVE’ and then loops back around to ‘HENRY’.
Maybe, Alex thinks, hands shaking, they’re one in the same. Whatever the fuck that means.

When June gets sick, Alex knows he'll do whatever it takes to make sure she gets the care that she needs. Even if that means convincing his nemesis/sexuality-crisis-inducing/clandestine hook-up partner/somewhat of an actual friend to pretend to be his soulmate in order to pull it off. It's both more and less complicated than it sounds.

Alex hears him, loud and clear, but it’s like his words are suddenly shallow and hollow, coming in bits and pieces as they funnel through one ear and out the other, and he swears he’s listening, swears he’s trying to hang onto every word out of his boyfriend's mouth, but that white hot static is louder than ever. His brain feels fuzzy and his eyes blur and whether it’s from unshed tears he hasn’t noticed yet or for another reason completely, he isn’t sure.
He isn’t sure how he got from point A to point B, but all he knows is suddenly he can’t breathe.
Suddenly, he’s six feet under, water encasing his lungs as they shrivel and expand into nothing.Or: Alex and Henry get into a fight, and the only way out is through panicking

He told Phillip first. It was a tremendously stupid idea he can only excuse by the fact that he was thirteen at the time. He thought his brother might help him talk to their parents. He didn’t know how to articulate it feels like there are hands closing around my spine and twisting or sometimes my legs hurt so bad that walking feels like I’ve got glass buried in my feet. He trusted his brother, and even more than that he wanted the desultory and relentless agony to go away.
Phillip didn’t tell their parents. He told their grandfather.

Now that he’s taken a step back from public life, Henry can relax. Without constant pressure to stand up straight and smile through the pain, some cracks start appearing in his facade. Alex starts to notice.

“Fuck off, sweetheart,” he laughs, a soundbite of the sun. Henry forces himself not to physically react, the term of endearment sweet and menacingly familiar coming from Alex’s lips. It’s been years. “You know they’re useful.”
“Ah yes, eyelashes, truly a formidable instrument in managing international relations.”
Alex grins, and Henry is too late to catch the slightest downward lilt on the corner of his mouth, “Worked on you once, didn’t it?”
Oh, did that ache.
(Much had happened since the time Henry had told Alex to leave. Alex had passed the bar, gotten married, had the most beautiful daughter. And Henry, well. He stayed right where he was.)
