Summary
Nothing is the same after Overlord. It's unspoken. It's said in the tired, nervous glances at each other in the quiet days afterward. It's said in small smiles that try provide comfort they cannot muster because they are teenagers that...
They lost. It's not a hard truth to admit, no matter how bitter, because that is the crux of it. They defeated Overlord but they did not win, and the consequences are ones they have to live with. Ones that echo in the silence of Defenders Hall and bounce around empty walls into emptier rooms. Consequences that leave a note on a countertop and an olive branch ignored and broken.
William has been through a lot. Maybe not nearly as much as Vyncent - no, definitely not nearly as much. His life is laughably normal, both deaths and all, compared to dimension hopping by force. But through it all, regardless of how little he thinks of himself as a hero and how he doesn't quite believe in heroism, William never thought that being a hero in training would lead to this.

They exist impossibly in the same space, fractured pieces that don't quite form a whole person.

Summary
Blade-Three, also known as Three, is the living weapon of the Watchers. Conditioned to follow orders, it is meant to use its considerable strength, combat abilities, and total loyalty to obliterate the enemies of the Watchers. Of course, the "following orders" part comes first, which is how, when Listener agent Martyn InTheLittleWood comes along with the right command words, he manages to steal it.
Now, instead of missions that make any sense, Three must navigate as Martyn and his roommate Jimmy attempt to teach it how to be human, or at least enough of a person to be itself. It would help if either Martyn or Jimmy knew how to be human either, and if they weren't falling apart at the seams after the death of an old friend.
(And of course, there's the matter of Three's original identity, a question no one thinks to ask...)
Or: in which Evo had a bad end, and five years later, the pieces that were left behind start to accidentally fall back together.
