This is it, Oikawa thinks, this is how I die.
The person is now a few feet away from Oikawa, but now that Oikawa can see more clearly, the outline of the person looks familiar. Oikawa doesn’t know where he’s seen this person before, but he hopes that by knowing the gang member, Oikawa might be spared. The man steps into the light of a street lamp, and Oikawa feels his heart drop to his stomach.
Oikawa could spot that face from a mile away, because he’s been seeing it every day since he was five.
“Iwa-chan?” Oikawa asks, mouth hanging open as he squints, trying to get a better look at the man standing in front of him.
“Oikawa?” Iwaizumi asks, stepping even closer.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
(or: rising journalist oikawa tooru discovers that his childhood best friend is a detective and grapples with his feelings for said best friend, all while going undercover in order to expose a ring of corruption.)

Iwaizumi Hajime never asked for much. Coming from a humble background, all he wanted was to be able to pay his school fees while making a few quick bucks with the various odd jobs he can fit into his already pitiable university life.
So he thinks it’s his grand misfortune when he gets more than what he can handle – Oikawa Tooru, the richest and most eligible bachelor in the school. It wouldn’t have been so bad if Oikawa didn’t have such an awful personality – and if they weren’t worlds apart.
But life has a different idea, and the world has a way of bringing together two starkly different souls.

Summary
When Oikawa confesses to Iwaizumi, it’s safe to say he’s a little shocked. However, he’s more shocked at his own reaction, which is a mortifyingly quick acceptance of his confession.
What’s more shocking is how Iwaizumi can’t find it in himself to tell Oikawa the truth—that he doesn’t have feelings for him.
At least, he hopes that’s the truth.

Hajime sighs and tries to will his brain to work faster so he can try to grasp onto the problem of the situation; but to his displeasure he still can’t find a problem while he speaks to Tooru, “It says we’re in San Juan, Puerto Rico.”“Hajime- I’m not in San Juan, Puerto Rico! I’m in San Juan, Argentina!”
The 'two cities have the same name and I just happened to go to the one three-thousand miles away from you on your birthday' trope this fandom doesn't have, but needs.
