"One might arguably say it is not fully logical to care whether I cannot return to Vulcan because it no longer exists or because it is separated from me permanently in five-dimensional space.”

“No, I think I get it,” said Jim. “Like, I haven’t gone back to the old house in Iowa in years, but I do like knowing it’s there. If my mom sold it and it got knocked down, it would make a difference to me.”

The ambassador nodded. “Likewise, even in four-dimensional space, we are separated from the things we have lost only by distance—by the fact that we cannot easily travel along the timeline.” He marked out a section of his timeline, then a dot further back in the bottom timeline—Jim’s timeline. “My marriage is here. I am here, in a different timeline and at a different time. But my marriage exists. It is a figure in four-dimensional space which will continue to exist, in that sense, eternally. So long as the timeline does not collapse, it is a permanent part of history. So although I do not have my spouse with me, I know that he existed. That somewhere, in a time and a dimension I cannot go, we are meeting for the first time. That somewhere, I am asleep in his arms.”

    Summary

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single Vulcan in possession of a Starfleet commission must be in want of a spouse.

Due to a series of bad decisions and bad luck, the Kirk family is stuck on Vulcan for the foreseeable future. Jim Kirk longs to join Starfleet, but circumstances have gotten in his way. Winona's solution is simple: just marry your way to your dreams.

Jim isn't planning on that. Especially given Spock is the worst, most stuck-up, unbearable sample of a Vulcan one might ever encounter. But even Spock isn't immune to a pair of fine hazel eyes...

    Summary

Cloud's ma was wrong. He wasn't obsessed with Sephiroth. He didn't have a crush (ew). Sephiroth was just objectively the coolest kid in town - and yeah, he never left that weird old manor, and his dad was a greasy rat, and he had a propensity for staring at Cloud like he could make lasers come out of his eyes. But that was all part of the Sephiroth experience! It was fine! Cloud would be fine.

Thanks to a wish granted by the lifestream, Cloud is born in 1984, two years earlier than he should be. Sephiroth is being raised in secret within the walls of Shinra Manor by Hojo and a handful of Shrina employees, and Cloud (age eleven) is a willful magnet for trouble.

    Summary

One kiss. That was all it took to completely devastate him, if it was Spock. He’d been longing for this for so long. Pulling back slightly, he opened his eyes.

Spock was looking back at him, completely unruffled.

Jim looked down, embarrassed. “Was that—all right?”

    “It was most interesting, Jim.”

Jim straightened up and started to move away. Spock loved him—that, at least, had been understood. If he didn’t want to kiss, it was all right.

Spock’s hand snapped out and caught Jim by the wrist. “You do not need to stop. I said I found it interesting. Perhaps I should have instead said fascinating?”

    Summary

When Spock was born, his father suspected he wouldn’t be much of a telepath, not with half human blood. But to everyone’s surprise, his telepathy is powerful and precise. By the time he is ten, he is reading his teachers’ minds when they try to read his. Sinking into another’s mind is as natural to him as opening his eyes.

And he is curious, so curious, always. About the stars, about science, about every mind he encounters. He didn’t go to space to meld with new and exciting alien minds, but it’s definitely a perk.
