For a moment, he stood and watched the one person in the gym that wasn’t watching him. A Karasuno third year that he vaguely remembered seeing in tournaments. Oikawa can’t say he remembers him because he had amazing skills (nobody at Karasuno had amazing skills, if you’re asking Oikawa) – in truth, Oikawa only remembered him because he was damn pretty. His silver hair sat like a messy halo around his beaming, enthusiastic face. Honestly, if he turned Oikawa’s way, he’d probably swoon. Except he didn’t even look at Oikawa. Instead of being angelic, that face was just another thing irritating him.

He’s staring at Langa. He’s cutting through the water like a knife. Cold, sharp, and heartless. It would be beautiful if it weren’t so tragic.
Something in Reki’s chest begins to ache, something he cannot name. It’s almost as if he focuses on the long strokes of the Canadian, he sees him pulling through the frigid waters of the arctic. As if the glaciers split just for him. As if it’s snowing indoors. He blinks and the moment’s gone. Langa slams his hand against the wall, well ahead of Hiromi. He slings off his red and white swim cap, shaking the water out of his long hair. When he looks up at the crowd, he’s looking at Reki.In which Reki loses everything, learns to exist, loses everything again, and then learns to live and love.

Summary
They were paired together by chance, by the algorithm, by god or the devil and they get along so well it’s almost a curse. Reki is so bright and beautiful, injecting fun into every moment they spend together. He was never scared by Langa's coldness. He offered warm affection, easily drawing Langa from his shell. He chattered, happily filling the gap of Langa's silence.
Langa tries hide his crush on his supposedly straight college roommate while Reki explores his bi awakening with Joe.

And suddenly the stomachache went away, replaced completely with a hot feeling of anticipation and an undeniable anxiety, because maybe if he did everything perfectly right, maybe, just maybe, Reki wouldn’t need Rin anymore.
Langa’s head spun with fatigue, and gripping onto Reki’s shoulder for any kind of tangible purchase, he murmured a drawn-out, “Okay… okay, I will.”
Or: Reki is heartbroken because his crush doesn't like him back, so he turns to Langa for a way to impress her.
