Summary
Another howl, this one closer. Deeper and louder, holding more weight and strength than the last, sounded out. Chanyeol whipped his head to the side, wide eyes trained on the shadow that was the forest surrounding him.
He saw nothing, of course, but darkness. That didn't ease his sudden anxiety and he gripped the wooden handle of the basket tightly. The coarse handle rubbed the pads of his fingers raw and irritated his new cut, but the his grip didn't loosen despite the pain. It simply couldn't when the howl was still echoing in his ears. Chanyeol needed the pain to help him focus.
'Calm down now. You know these woods just as well as everyone else.' He took in a deep breath, the crisp autumn air filling his lungs and nostrils with the smell of leaves, dirt and moss. His head cleared a bit and he took a few tentative steps forward.
