Roman is full of fight except for when he absolutely isn't, and right now his gauge for spunky back and forth is pretty fucking low. On the other hand, he might need to answer this. At the last second, he answers. "Hey," he says, weary. "What do you need?"
"I was wondering how busy you are," Jeryd says, and god if Roman doesn't wish that he could believe the tinge of warmth in his tone. "I know you were already here, but come over for a drink. We're breathing for a minute or two."
Roman wants to snap at him, but the urge is so far beyond what he's capable of that he rubs his eyes impatiently. "I'm not really – I'm not up to people right now, Jeryd." Futile anger has always been a good refuge for him. "I think I'm getting the fuck out of the city, that's what I'm doing."
Roman reconnects with both Jeryd and Tabitha after some of the worst days of his life, only to discover just how far his relationships with both of them go.
