The low hum of murmured prayers and the smell of old wood and incense are as familiar to Jiung as his own skin. He is a fixture in the church, just like the stained-glass windows that cast their fractured colors across the congregation.
It’s what makes it hard to pinpoint clearly when exactly was it that the way the light filters through those same windows became sharper and colder, casting strange shadows instead. Or when the relief of confession turned into a heaviness in Jiung's chest, a subtle prickling under his skin that he couldn’t shake.
