This was the chance now, wasn’t it? There were no upcoming assignments, no miseries, terrors or deceits. There was no excuse, nothing to run away from. If he needed something relatable for an opener, he had one; it was close to evening, and they both had a stomach to fill.
“Kuroba,” Shinichi began, waiting until Kuroba gave his full attention. “Would you like to go get dinner with me after this?”
The magician blinked. Shinichi stared back, fighting the urge to look away.
Then, Kuroba gave out an easy laugh, one that was loud and bright that Shinichi felt almost a pain in his chest, but it went quickly as it came. “Sure,” Kuroba said, smiling at ease. “Why not?”

Shinichi brought Kaito out for dates. Shinichi thought they were social dates. Kaito didn’t know they were dates. Everyone else thought they were dating. It’s very complicated.

Summary
“Okie-dokes.” Kuroba shakes himself, and then turns to wave at the waiting group of suspects and witnesses with a reassuring smile. They stare blankly at him.
“They’re traumatized, Kaito-san.”
“I know. That’s why I’m being nice.”
Shinichi grabs Kuroba’s jacket and starts yanking him toward the group, ignoring his annoyed muttering. In Kuroba’s defense, he’s very good at looking reassuring. It’s just a lot less effective when he’s standing next to the corpse.

When a magician seemingly murders an audience member in the middle of a show, no one but Conan can even begin to figure out all the tricks of this case. Naturally, Megure talks to Nakamori, who recommends the one and only magic expert that he knows: Kuroba Kaito.

"And then what? Will you finally tell Kuroba-kun?"
Shinichi shrugs. "I'm not sure. I do want to tell him, though. I just haven't figured out how to broach the subject."
She snorts. "Yeah, I can see how that would be troublesome."
"Well, I'll see when the time comes," he says, grabbing another paper.
"As is the Kudou Shinichi modus operandi, because it has always worked out so well before."
