Summary
The gingerbread man on Kate’s green sweater is half-covered in flour, but infuriatingly, that only adds to the charm as she leads Yelena to a spot in the middle of the kitchen, bringing Yelena’s hands to her own shoulders before taking hold of Yelena’s waist, slowly guiding their bodies into an unsteady rhythm that Yelena supposes could be called dancing.
“Did you remember to get the first batch out of the oven?”
With a hum, Kate spins them both in place once, her eyes glinting. “Let me see… I can’t smell anything burning, so I think I did. I also put on the second batch just before you got back, and I even remembered to set the timer and everything. I did the dishes, too.”
“I am impressed, Kate Bishop,” Yelena deadpans. “All that and you didn’t need to use the fire extinguisher even once.”

Summary
Kate always seems to check in when she needs it most. Those blood-red hours of the night where she hangs her head off the bed like a murderer sentenced to a guillotine, waiting for the blade to fall. Those corner-of-the-room moments where she knits shadows over her body like a blanket, lets them weigh her down and down and down into nothing. Where she thinks about her sister. Where she thinks about the Red Room.
In a quiet, sheltered corner of Yelena's heart, it's always December. Kate decides to make it mean something softer.

Kate doesn't know when 'Kate Bishop' becomes a term of endearment in their friendship, but she's not willing to question it.
As long as it means that Yelena is here to stay, Kate is more than happy to hear her call her by her full name for the rest of their lives.

That’s the problem with newly-sharpened pencils. “Then what?” They’re always a second away from needing a new sharpen, a second away from—
“I mean, I need you to be my date.”
—breaking. Alicent presses too hard, then, and the lead falls flat with a snapping noise. “What?”
FEATURING: a very fake relationship, a very real wedding, a play with five acts, and two people who are definitely not in love.

Summary
“Oh- oh, shit, you’re bleeding.”
Rhaenyra would’ve rolled her eyes if her head wasn’t pounding so heavily. “Yeah, I told you, you broke my-”
But it was then that her sight had finally cleared and she was able to see her bathroom companion for the first time.
Fuck.
A girl.
Like a laughably, ridiculously pretty girl, nearly half a foot shorter than Rhaenyra, with curling red hair streaming down her back. She stood right in front of her, uncomfortably close, with these big, dark eyes almost as teary as Rhaenyra’s own.
Her anger dissolved at once.
