Summary
But the silence that day...
The silence that filled the air that day was harder than the fight itself.
If he thinks about it hard enough he swears he still can see Johnny breathing. Maybe just the slightest rise and fall of his chest, barely there, and barely visible to anyone but someone insane enough to pay that much attention. He thinks he can still feel Johnny's pulse. Faint, light, a flutter, but a hint of life.
And he wonders if they made the wrong call. He dreams about it. Nightmares of Johnny being buried alive. Johnny being cremated while still fighting to stay alive. He knows it's not sensible. Knows that no one survives that much blood loss, or the injuries Johnny sustained, and if they did, he knows they'd never be the same. But the 'what if' is always stronger than rationality.

Summary
His throat hurts, still. Maybe it's from screaming and sobbing over Eddie's dead body, or from trying to comfort a sobbing Dustin, trying to bring him back home safely.
He knows if anything had happened to Nancy and Robin he would never have forgiven himself for that either, so really it feels like, in the words of Robin, 'one, giant error'.

Summary
And he felt like he was going insane, because as much as Gaz and Price's hovering helped remind him that he wasn't in Las Almas, he knew it was only temporary. The truth was that without Johnny there was barely any trace of the 141. He didn't know how to talk to Gaz without Johnny, didn't want Price to feel like he needed babysitting, so he distanced himself, and promised himself one thing.
Never let himself get close to a teammate the way he was with Johnny again.
He was doing a real damn good job of that too.

Summary
For a second, the whole situation inside Steve's head feels kind of ironic. He's the co-captain of the swim team but he feels like he's drowning. His thoughts are water, rushing into his lungs, and cutting off his airflow. A million 'what ifs' rushed into his mind all at once.
His breathing picks up. He should've been there because if he was then Eddie wouldn't have died, and if Eddie hadn't died he wouldn't have had to split up from Nancy and Robin.
And he would know where Robin was right now.
He has a million thoughts racing through his mind, and he can't seem to focus on a singular one.

Summary
She leaned her back against the door, letting it take her weight. She wanted to leave, and get away from Steve Harrington because she could've still been happily slinging ice cream, but at the same time, she knows him. She knows that she could've died down there, but she knows that he feels what she's been feeling.
He's scared. He hasn't been sleeping well, but at the same time, he just feels so tired all the time. Robin can tell he wants to forget it too.
