Nancy reached out, brushing Steve’s hair from his face. She had to keep reminding herself that he wasn’t hers anymore. She’d ended that, tonight actually. Though, if she was honest, it had ended a long time ago.
Maybe, in a way, it had never really been anything. Another attempt in her long and storied history to be noticed for something other than her grades, her nice clothes. Another accidental fall into the same tired cycle the women in her family had been playing out for generations. Cute boy, good family, marriage, kids and a house with a station wagon out front. And she’d wanted it, she really had.
She wanted to love him, especially since he’d changed. She just…couldn’t. Not like that, not like he needed her to. His words from earlier tonight echoed in her ears.
"I may be a pretty shitty boyfriend…"
Yeah, she thought, you were. Sometimes. But I wasn’t much better.

Will flushed as Richie’s eyes, magnified by his lenses, very obviously raked over him, like he was trying to study or analyze him. If he wasn’t feeling so scrutinized he’d be entertained by how obvious it must be anytime Richie looked at anything. It was like his glasses exposed him rather than shielded him.
He looked almost wooden now, like he had been startled too, his eyes widening and widening impossibly more, making Will subconsciously worry he’d fall into them and get lost, until a little sigh-like sound punched out of Richie’s chest.
“Whoa.”
After the last two years of suffering and inter-dimensional threats, the only thing Will wanted was to spend a nice summer with his friends. Too bad they were too busy with their new relationships. With Dustin now away for summer camp, he dreaded the endless afternoons of fifth-wheeling to come.
After everything that happened last summer, Richie's mother thought it was best if he visited family for a while. Anything to get him out of a town that was clearly getting to him, even if Richie didn't think she knew why. He dreaded being away from the only people who could understand.
They could have never expected each other.

Mike had slipped once more, into a dream-like state but it was not night-time yet, not anytime soon. This time in his visions, everything he saw was painted in beautiful and intricate watercolors. He looked down and found himself dressed like Mike the paladin, shield, sword and all. He saw tall, blue-green trees on his left and violet wildflowers, besides which stood a foot path leading to a lush forest and Mike instinctively decided to follow that small path.
He felt the sunshine upon his exposed face and neck, almost tickling his freckles with warmth. The scenery had turned from vibrant blues, violets and differing shades of greens and onto… light. Sunshine. Yellow and ochre and illumination and warm glimmers, where the scenery was practically sparkling all around him. Mike had held his breath in anticipation– but nothing ambushed him, nothing lunged forward from any direction.
He let his stance relax and kneeled down to touch a brilliantly vibrant wildflower with his fingertips. He breathed in deep through his nose, the flowering field was almost intoxicating in its diverse scent. He took another deep breath and enjoyed his surroundings before starting once more, trudging forwards towards– nothing? Something? -

A few months after the events of season 3, Max is sent to live with her dad in Lenora Hills, California. Grieving Billy and feeling unwanted, the last thing she needs is El and Will reminding her of everything that went wrong last summer. But Max always gets exactly what she deserves, and apparently what she deserves is a complicated, messy friendship.
El is in school for the first time, and it’s better than she could have imagined. She’s involved in extracurriculars, she’s friends with an older girl, and she (sort of) has a family. But when Max shows up, bringing the past with her, El must grapple with who she was and who she wants to be.

A 14 year old Will Byers had been in California for 3 months now and he hates every single second of it. Until, his teacher announces that their school is having an art contest and the winner gets to go to Japan for a free art program. Suspicious.
(2 years later - 16 years old) After Storm-bringer, Chuuya Nakahara, who has no memories of before he was taken, stands with so much unanswered questions. Still reeling from the flags deaths, he puts off the fight of if he should investigate who he was before the lab.
A now, newly 17 year old Chuuya Nakahara is determined to find his family and to save what’s leave of his past with them. With Dazai just coming along for the entertainment and to support his recently new bf.

Without a doubt, he's looking at himself. An older version of himself. A version of himself so different, he's actually not sure if he'd have recognized his own self were it not for the person next to him — Will.
Mike's breath gets caught in his throat.
Will.
He's different. So different. But he's also still so clearly Will.
His hair is shaggy, grown out of the bowlcut he'd been rocking all the time that Mike has known him. The clothes he wears are different too, softer around the edges, brighter. His eyes are still so wide and green and earnest and the full stream of light behind him makes him look— More importantly he's— The older Will is— He just— He looks good—
The second his thoughts finally formulate Mike almost physically shakes his head to rid them. What the hell was that? What the hell was that?
In which older Mike and Will get sent to the roughest patch in their lives, and current Mike has to deal with what it causes him to feel on top of his already weird, raging emotions. Great.

“Where is he?” The General asked, and Steve almost laughed in his face again.
“Ohhhh he’s long gone, you big asshole!” He smiled, and he could tell that the General didn’t like that. Good. “He’s probably calling Hopper and Hopper is calling the U.S. Cavalry, they’re going to come in here commando style, guns a-blazing and kick your sorry asses back to Russia, and you’re gonna be two pieces of toast.”
They laughed, because they knew it. Because there was no other possible future where the Russians won. He imagined the General, blood pooling around his body. Dead. The General would die, and Steve took comfort in that.
The General nodded at Steve, a smug smile spreading on his face, then turned to the Doctor and spoke some Russian. They talked there for a moment, then they both walked out without another word.
“That’s bad right?” Steve asked once they were alone again.
“Uh, yeah. Yeah, that’s pretty bad.”
They leaned their heads on each others’ shoulders, and they stayed silent for a very long time. He focused on nothing but the connection, and hoped everything would sort itself out. He hoped Henderson was on his way.

Last year she might have been the talk of the school for being dropped off by The Steve Harrington, back when he was still dating Nancy and his social status hadn’t completely crumbled. Now though she is just as much of an unknown as everyone else, or as close to one as she can be. Maybe it’s the darkness she carries everywhere she goes, headphones over her ears as often as possible, eyes both dead and full of fury all at once. Or maybe it’s a small town and everyone knows she was Billy’s stepsister. Her music blocks out most of the whispers, but she can sort of read lips.
That’s her. She lost everything after the fire, even her house.
I heard he pushed her out of the way of a fiery beam and saved her life. I hope she’s doing okay, poor girl.

It was the Mike who had spent days on the frontline searching for Will, who had thrown himself into fire to shelter a terrified stranger, who lived in waiting room chairs and the threadbare blankets of Jonathan’s house. Who had brought Will back from the brink when no one else could, and who had gifted a joy to him that Jonathan had never seen before. A Mike who cared, above all else. Golden-tinged light.

This fic starts post season 3, pre season 4 with minor changes. Billy didn't die in this season 3, he saved Eleven but has no memory of her or most of what he had done while under the control of the mindflayer. But since Steve and himself had both just graduated, he no longer has 'King Steve' as a rival and has to grow up. Billy still wants to keep Max from seeing Lucas as he's still a little racist. But when he hears the story of what 'happened' to him, he doesn't buy any of it and goes to Steve to figure it out, since why else would he have been at the Byers house that night? Steve must know something and he's most likely to tell him what happened. But he still has to live a relatively 'normal' life.
