Summary
He was more like a candlelight. A gentle, weak light that only one or two people could effectively use. Only useful when all over forms of light fail. He was just slowly dying out like a candle. They ware themselves out until all the wax is melted, giving up their life to provide the littlest bit of guidance to those who are using it. Will wants to go out like a candle.

Nico lazily peeked an eye open to gaze up at his boyfriend. He was stunning.
How could he be so absolutely lucky to have such an amazing boyfriend? Someone who loved him so unconditionally? Someone who was always there for him, ready to take care of him? Someone who would follow him to the ends of the Earth? Someone who jumped into Tartarus for him?
Percy, surprisingly, was right. While Tartarus was horrifying, to say the least, he never trusted Will more. They were so open with each other and he felt like he could tell him anything. Things were literally perfect.
Will interrupted his thoughts by pushing him off his lap into the damp grass next to him. Nico met his eyes, startled by the sudden movement. Something broken lingered on his face before his expression steeled into a symphathetic look.
“Nico we need to talk” Will inhaled, squeezing his eyes tight.

“How do you think Kayla and Austin feel? You talk on and on about protecting them, and then you pull stunts like this?”
The second Kayla and Austin’s names leave his mouth, Will’s face shuts down entirely. His jaw tightens, and his eyes drop to the ground as hands twist through the dying grass, close to ripping out a patch. And yet, the son of Apollo remains silent.
In any other instance he’d double back and apologize, really anything to bring a little something back to Will’s face. But he doesn’t. He can’t. The anger inside him is too hot, too suffocating. The same anger that had burned through him years ago the night Bianca said goodbye, and again when he learned what her final sacrifice had cost.
It circles his lungs, choking him out, and he knows that he can’t survive watching someone he cares about slip through his fingers again. Not again. Not him.
“Gods, you need to think, Will. It’s not fair!” he shouts, the ground below them trembling in time with his pounding heart. The decay spreads faster and faster, nearing the tree line, but he’s too focused on Will. “And if you keep going like this, you’re going to kill yourself—”
“Good.”
