Summary
Sherlock Holmes liked to think he was many things. Smarter than the average, a genius as most would claim, an alluring detective. But he was not an envious fellow.
The detective was certainly not having his stomach twirl at the sight he was granted with for the past few hours. He couldn’t care less about noblewomen trying to weasel their way into young and wealthy noblemen lives. As long as it had nothing to do with a certain mathematician, it seemed.
Or: Sherlock attends to a ball and a load of jealousy, yearning and flirting ensues.

Mike looked back towards Will and he became suddenly aware of just how close they were sitting. He wasn’t sure whether he’d landed closer to Mike when he was tugged back down from standing, or whether Mike had shifted closer as he’d turned to face him, but what he did know was that Mike was sitting there, staring down at him with his stupid puppy-dog eyes and his fingers slowly drifting up Will’s arm towards his bicep, carelessly ignoring the fact that Will had spent the last year of his life trying to get over him.
“Will…” Mike said, and it sounded very much like pleading.
or: An impending mission the next day prompts Mike to think about some things more clearly. Will has a hard time understanding.

Summary
Mike never wanted Will to be alone, not because he was weak or couldn’t handle himself. Because Mike knew that as long as he was there, he could throw himself between Will and any semblance of danger — self-preservation instincts out the window — and protect the person he needed more than anyone.
Which ended up including protecting Will from Mike’s own heart.
