Zero, 22-year-old Zero, sincere and earnest and a little bit hesitant, uncertain in a way Bourbon isn't, unpolished in a way 29-year-old Furuya isn't. Bourbon, sharp edges barely concealed with a layered honeyness on top, dangerous and sly, enchanting when he wants to be. Furuya, authoritative and knows just how to wield that authority to his advantage. The 29-year-old version, Morofushi's own Furuya, flexible and manipulative when he needs or wants to be, very good at getting what he wants, very good at getting yes as an answer. 22-year-old Zero has none of that, but there's something about the lack of perfect polish, lack of practiced seduction, just wide-eyed sincerity and being so fucking earnest, that somehow makes him quite hard to say no to, Morofushi thinks.

Hiromitsu assumed that hierarchical rank had granted him the right to enter without knocking because he hadn’t even heard the faintest sound of his steps halting beyond the door, nor the mandatory knock that, in formality and appearance, he should have made.
He stood by the door, his body leaning slightly forward. Furuya had entered like a shadow, claiming the space that had belonged solely to Hiromitsu just moments ago. The only reason he could read the hardness in his shoulders and the tension in his clenched jaw was because he had devoted his entire life to studying every gesture, as if it were an open case file that could never be solved.
Or: A not-so-random kidnapping makes a perfectly valid excuse for not telling Furuya that in just a couple of hours, Hiromitsu will become Scotch again. Right?
