After 9 years since it was known that the Baudelaire orphans have left the island, I have finally found sufficient evidence of the events the transpired afterwards.
If by chance you have been quite unlucky these past few days, then I regret to inform you that today is another unlucky day for you. If you have thought that the terrible tales about the lives of the Baudelaire orphans were already finished, I suggest you continue living on with that belief. It would be best to find another book to read in order to spare yourself from the misery and despair that awaits you upon further progression into this book's contents.
Surely there must something more preferable than reading about what happened to the two sets of well-known orphans, a former hotel manager, a vague trail of sightings, scrumptious carrot cake, and other unpleasant details you certainly would not be interested in.

Life was relatively normal for you, as normal as it can be for any normal teenage girl that was orphaned under mysterious circumstances at a young age and sent to the austere academy that was Prufrock Preparatory School. Or at least, it was normal until the Baudelaire orphans came along and brought count Olaf with them, the guy who made his way into your life worse than the Spanish conquistadors.
Where will your unsavory encounter lead to? Will it be more misery, or maybe redemption? And if so, for who?

The Hotel Denouement is "The Last Safe Place", as Kit Snicket stated. Not for too long, though. The Medusoid Mycelium is still out there, and the Denouements may not be much of a help. The Denouements included Dewey, Ernest, Frank, and Wiltina.
The fire is brutal and lethal, and Wiltina goes missing, a word which here means she is no longer present.
This is not a happy story, with a happy ending, and very few happy things in the middle.
If you like happy fanfiction, I suggest you "X" out of this now.This, is no happy story.
Because that's not how the story goes.

Most people would have learned of their partner’s disappearance, heading out into the field, via a note. A telegram sent to a local office. Perhaps an off-handed, nearly forgotten, reminder at the next meeting after they’d spent weeks in distress assuming the worst. Betrayal. Barbarity. Bereavement.
Most people didn’t get Kit Snicket, standing in their kitchen, being precious about their feelings. Reaching into one of the many deep pockets in her coat, rifling about for something, and waiting until she found whatever it was to answer. Leaving Olivia and the percolator in one last moment of invaluable anticipation.
“Four months,” Kit finally said, leaning against the counter, with a frankness that showed exactly how little she approved of such things herself. The coffeemaker, having completed its task, chose that precise moment to fall into silence as if mutually shocked by the news. “He’s undercover. Here, if you’ll believe it...but he will write.”

Summary
Cigarettes were useful in many scenarios. They could be used as makeshift smoke signals to communicate with someone fairly close by. As part of a disguise, they could make a child appear much older than they actually were. Most helpfully, when dealing with a certain sort of adult, offering a smoke was a surefire way to gain their favor. Anyone who partook in cigarettes was always happier with one between their lips.
Of course, none of those were the reason that fourteen-year-old Kit Snicket first opened a pack.
