Marat’s first impression of the vhrakir—no, the dawnwalker—had been that he was weak. That wasn’t quite right, of course, because no vhrakir was weak. Claws and teeth and the ability to vanish and reappear with an exhaled hiss, to end Marat’s life before he could draw a breath—he knew the dawnwalker possessed all of that. If weakness wasn’t the correct description, it was something near. Soft was the word, perhaps, a vulnerability that was so close to the surface of Coen’s skin that it could be felt like body heat.

uhm.... I will update the tags as I go along. Probably the summary, too.
What if Coen spares Ambrus, despite knowing better? Despite Ambrus doing nothing to make that decision any easier?What if that choice ends up threatening to overturn Ambrus' entire existence more thoroughly than the vrakhir transformation ever did? What if he gets eaten up by anger, indignity, helplessness... and something so much worse?
And what happens to Coen, buckling under a broken family he cannot save fast enough, a valley demanding more than he has, a war he never asked to lead, when whatever this has quietly become between them refuses to stay simple?
Fair warning: this gets messy. Lots of deflection, lots of Ambrus making it harder than it has to be. It gets worse before it gets better.

Summary
Coen of Laslea died that day in the mines, what came out was but a shadow of the man before. But instead of giving up he did everything in his power to save his family.
After killing Brencis with the help of his friend and lover, Marat, he tries to go back to his old life while also struggling with the monster inside.
I'm missing the family reunion scene and everyone is way too chill with Coen being a vampire, so I wrote this instead. But then I got other ideas and now it's basically Coen trying to accept his vrakhir side with the help of others.
