Viktor felt, for a second, somewhat sated. This was not the life he had dreamed of, but only because he had, on some level, not really expected to have a life to dream about. He had a comfortable job, a kind employer, he had more time than he ever really expected to read, to study, to learn. He had, of course, a yearning for something more, but while their travels interrupted his personal experiments, they also funded them.
