Casey’s heart pounded in the pit of his throat with every stolen look. The scorching path of Colt’s gaze trailing from his eyes to his mouth felt as physical as a bruise, the perfect sort of aching tenderness.
Casey knew how to reduce the impact of his body to protect it. He learned how to roll from a moving car and leap from the ledge of a three-story roof with nothing more than a nerve-wracking flood of adrenaline. He survived flipping his car through pyrotechnic displays that would leave him reeking of smoke for hours. He had learned to protect his body in dangerous situations as part of his job’s optics.
Despite the training and his finely honed instincts, he forgot every lesson of self-preservation the moment he heard Colt’s bark of laughter cut through the roaring din of the bar’s crowd.

Summary
Peter’s science teacher, Mr. Grace, senses that something is affecting him when he notices Peter’s decline in attentiveness and increased absences.
