Summary
“Wanna— wanna eat you out, Rust. Wanna get my mouth on you. Can I—”
He forces his eyes open— needs to see Rust, needs to show him how much he wants this, has been wanting it. Their eyes meet and Rust reacts like he’s been hit with an electric current, twists his fingers tight and desperate in Marty’s shirt before letting his own eyes drift closed. It feels like an eternity passes between them before Rust finally speaks, soft as anything. “Yeah. Yeah, Marty, please.”

Rust just turns slightly, burrows himself deeper into the mattress. “Like I said”, he huffs out, voice partially muffled in the fabric of his pillow. “Ain’t gotta stop what you’re doing on my account”.

Summary
The first night Marty gets Rust home and put to bed he whimpers like an old hound dog in his sleep, making these ripped-raw noises that well and gurgle up past his lips like fresh blood from the hole in his gut all over again. Doesn’t know he’s doing it, course not, but Marty lays there next to him in the dark—the man’s only got one bed, ain’t no shame in that—and has to wonder about the Vietnam-grade shit Rust’s got playing in living technicolor in his head.

“D’you remember the comet that hit Jupiter in ‘94?”
Marty blinks his eyes open, turning over in bed to squint up at Rust. He was this close to falling asleep, too. “What do you think, Rust?”
Or: post-Carcosa, life goes on.

Summary
Marty’s grip on his gun wavers but comes back quick. “What the fuck?” he says, and doesn’t know if he’s ever asked that question in any purer sense of the phrase. “How the fuck did you—why’s there—why’s there a twelve-foot wide hole in my fucking yard?”
The man groans and rolls around onto his back, gritting his teeth as his head drops into the soft dirt. He closes his eyes against the sky when he answers. “I fell.”
