Summary
"It felt different this time, Buck decided. Not worse, definitely not better, but different as he watched Tommy walk away from him again.
He had been sad before. Crushed.
Had channeled heartbreak into bread dough and regret into cake batter. Like if he kept baking, he could press it into a springform and watch it evaporate with the moisture from the heat of the oven.
He wasn’t sad now. He was furious."In which Buck says his piece, saves the day, and gets his guy. Because he's never been the type to give up, and he's not about to start now.

Summary
So here was the thing: Buck was maybe, possibly, having a bit of a breakdown.
It was when he found himself standing in the station kitchen, debating jamming the paring knife he was using to peel an apple into the back of his hand to see if he felt anything, that he could finally pinpoint a whisper of emotion inside the cavern of himself.
Unfortunately, that emotion was absolute fucking terror. In which Buck's laundry list of near-death and actual-death experiences catches up with him, post-cruise-disaster. He has, however, two things on his side: a handful of healthy coping mechanisms, and a best friend who won't let him flounder alone.

Summary
“You are one of his people now, whether you guys stay together or don’t,” Eddie said, almost gentle now. “If you ever need him, he will be there for you, because that’s who he is. You’re his.”
Tommy’s throat ached. He wanted. “He’s like the sun.”
Eddie chuckled. This time, it actually sounded like Eddie.
“Yeah,” he said, his voice a rasp. “And the sun shines on everyone at different times.” You idiot, went unsaid. In the wake of everything, Tommy isn't sure where he stands with Evan. Eddie, on the heels of blowing up his life, is out of patience and fucks to give. He and Tommy are going to have words.

Summary
“Don’t answer me now.” Eddie cleared his throat and stared hard at the photographs above the mantel. “I—I made the mistake of answering too quickly, once. I don’t—I don’t want you to say something now and regret it later.”
In which Eddie asks a question, Maddie and Bobby offer some advice, and Buck seizes his future with both hands.
(as ever, I am not great at summaries. Apologies.)

Summary
Every other Friday, Buck and May meet for lunch. On this particular Friday, a day after an excruciating conversation with Eddie in a cemetery, they talk about a thing they have in common: they both, however briefly, died.
In which death is hard, coming back from the dead is even harder, and grief, heavy and unwieldy though it is, is hardest to put down.
"We just had to be angry, and grieving, and love each other anyway."

Summary
He’d taken a bad fall.
He was fine.
He’d be fine. At home. In his own bed. Alone.
But as always, the universe had no problems mocking him when he was down.
Tommy had glanced up when he heard the scuff of boots at the door, his jaw clenching as the move made the nausea churn in his gut at the same time the throbbing ache in his spine pulsed in time with his heartbeat. The same heartbeat that skipped at the sight of him.
“Hey!” Tommy croaked because apparently that was what his voice did now.
Evan looked good.
“Hi,” Evan said, quiet and simple.
Tommy has a near death experience and nothing says healing quite like being taken care of by your ex you never got over.

“This is 97.3 eeezzz listening, you're on with Styx.”
There's a pause of silence and then a voice tentatively comes through the phone, “Uh, yeah hi. Um, I was interested in requesting a song and having it dedicated to someone? Is that still a thing people can do?”
Styx can't help but let out a little laugh. Ah first time callers. “Yes that is very much still a thing people can do.”

hauntology (hɔːnˈtɒlədʒi) • noun
the past that haunts the present. see also: list of things that can be haunted: houses, furniture, dolls, and me by him.
Of all the ways his life could go to shit, amnesia wasn't one that Buck had ever really considered, but with the trajectory of his life, he probably should have seen this one coming. The world's still exactly the same as it was yesterday; the sky is blue, the sun rises East and sets West, he's surrounded by people who love him and—
Oh, right! He has a boyfriend.

Summary
This is creepy, Tommy thinks.
He wouldn't want anyone standing in front of his house, staring through his windows like that. Like an intruder.
And yet, he can’t look away.
~
Tommy does the thing again. The lurking. This time, he gets caught.

Summary
“Hi,” Tommy says, smiling at him. Smiling like nothing’s wrong, like Buck hadn't dropped a grenade on their chances of getting back together, like the entire previous day hadn't happened. Smiling in the same clothes he'd been wearing.
“I-I thought you had a shift,” Buck says, and Tommy looks at him funny.
“Not until tomorrow,” he says. “Didn't want to leave without feeding you.”
And Tommy gently taps his stomach with the back of his hand before turning away, and Buck’s entire world shifts on its axis when he gets hit with an intense wave of déjà vu. It's so bad that he worries, once again, that he's having a neurological episode. It intensifies when he sees the spread of food—the same spread of food.
--
Buck goes to sleep after baking banana muffins at Maddie's. He wakes up to a familiar morning after.
