There’s something almost painful in the way his body snaps back online, falls back under his control without a moment’s warning. Eddie stares at his palms, empty and open, shakier now than they were when he’d watched those same hands mercilessly swing a blade as though out of his own body. There’s still blood buried in the creases between his fingers, tucked away with the dirt under his fingernails, and he feels the bile rise up his throat before he spills it onto the pavement.
"Eddie? Can you hear me?"
(Or: Eddie comes back to himself the October after Vecna rips Hawkins in half.)

Summary
Just one more time, Dorian tells himself, over and over. This is the last one, maybe this time will be enough, maybe he can get it right. Maybe the dagger won’t pierce the same spot. Maybe the blood won’t cascade like a wave, picking up speed as it chases towards the rocks on the shore of the Storm Coast. Maybe he can find the answer, the ending, the way out that hides itself amongst the rubble and spindleweed.
(Or Dorian gets stuck in a time loop with one goal: to make sure Cullen survives at the final blockade).

After all, Shane has managed to intertwine himself with Ryan’s life until the stitches where they joined were invisible. But the way Shane looks at him, soft around the edges, the alcohol making his expression as readable as an open book for the first time. The way he laughs at every one of Ryan’s little observations, even when they’re not funny. The way he holds Ryan close, like he can’t quite bear to let him out of reach for more than a second.
It’s enough to have him fooled.
