Avery hasn’t been able to rest ever since that message appeared on his screen. He died. He failed to protect and save Derek.
He’s been rereading and going over everything in that folder that Derek had—that is, until it was removed by the D.M.S.
Ever since then, Avery’s only gotten worse. The guilt is eating him alive, and he only wants Derek back.
But, it seems he might have to let go of Derek and their connection. Derek hasn’t resurfaced, and it’s been a month.
Maybe it’s better that Avery moves on.
Or…
Maybe, when Avery expects it the least, Derek might undo all of Avery’s progress on forgiving and forgetting.
