Summary
Emmett is too empirically minded to believe in life after death. But after death there is, at least, remembrance. He can only theorise about what will actually happen in the event they fail – but he doesn’t need to understand temporal physics to make an educated guess. A few last moments of terror in the face of the inevitable, followed by total oblivion.
Doc Brown ruminates on the peculiar situation he's found himself in and grapples with the ethics of time travel. Marty eats a sandwich.

The implications of the name caught up with him. “Good grief,” he said, which made Marty laugh harder. “You actually like this?”
Still smiling, Marty nudged his arm. “You like it in the future.”

The line was quiet for a moment. Then, plaintive, the voice came again. “Is that okay?”
