In the furthest reaches of the New Roman Empire lies Nemorensis: a colony-world dedicated to mineral extraction and scientific innovation. The Doctor, Jamie, and Zoe explore what the colony has to offer, all of it encased within great glass domes against the harsh, hazy skies.
But when the Doctor vanishes without a trace, it's up to Jamie and Zoe to bring him home.

Jamie hadn't any interest in anatomy. At least, not until the Doctor had suggested their present activity. Then he'd considered himself an avid student of the anatomical sciences.

Summary
It's Manchester, 1980-something, and acid jazz is on the rise. John Smith is a mild-mannered clarinettist who finds comfort in the simple things. His partner, Jamie McCrimmon, is a kilt-wearing Scotsman who's never far from a fight, or from John's side.
In the shed behind their house sits a police box, ordinary on the outside and empty on the inside. And kept in Jamie's sporran is a fob watch he doesn't dare open. He wakes each morning next to a man he calls his boyfriend, pretending they were always just John and Jamie—mates, lovers, life partners.
But John Smith isn’t really John Smith, and Jamie isn’t ready to say goodbye.

Summary
“What are you, then?” he asked. “If you’re not a hallucination – perhaps you’re some kind of coping mechanism. There must be a fragment of your consciousness left in the TARDIS’ databanks.” Turning his eyes towards the central column again, he focused his mind on the ship’s singing. “Is this your doing?”
But she was quiet. If it had been her – he would have expected some sort of self-satisfied hum, at least.
“I don’t know what I am,” Jamie said, a little plaintively. “Just that I’m here. With you.”
Something in the Doctor’s chest softened, at that. He reached out, a little uselessly, like he could grasp Jamie’s arm and squeeze it until he smiled. “Well, ah -” He cleared his throat. “You’re certainly not unwelcome, whatever you are.”
A link between minds is a difficult thing to break, even across great distances. Separated by the Time Lords, the Doctor and Jamie might just find that the bond between them leads them home.

Summary
“You know what I think?”
“Not in the slightest.”
“I think you’re in love with him.”
In which the Doctor is very nearly the last person to figure out that he's in love with Jamie - but there's still someone who realises after he does.

Summary
He opens the door - “Oh! Jamie!”
Something hot and unwanted springs to life inside his stomach.
Jamie has been tied and bound and is lying, cramped and looking desperately uncomfortable, half-hidden under a rack of discarded lab coats and tarpaulins. His kilt has ridden up, and to the Doctor’s shame and scarlet delight he can see the indents of his own sharpish teeth, the purple bruises like berries on the insides of Jamie’s thighs, and he knows Jamie will know he’s looking too. He’s blinking up at the Doctor - his eyes are dreadfully wide and white - and glowering.
“Mmf,” he says, or tries to say, and shakes his head as a wet dog might, trying to dislodge an irritation.

Summary
Either his body would rot here, in this alley, picked at by rats – or it would be found by their enemies, and God only knew what would happen then. This wasn’t like a war. Not any sort of proper war, anyway. There would be nobody to report him dead. Nobody to write home and tell the Doctor what had happened. He would just vanish, and that would be the end of it.
How long would the Doctor wait? How many days would he sit by the communicator, fingers twitching in anticipation, ready to pick up a call? How long would it take for him to give up?
How long would it take for him and Victoria to fly away, stepping into the TARDIS with no thought of ever returning?
An adventure goes terribly wrong, and Jamie just wants to hear the Doctor's voice one more time.
