Kurosawa Yuuichi doesn’t, as a rule, go out drinking himself.
For one thing, he is asked out drinking for work often enough that a glass of wine can feel like a burden. He associates the taste of alcohol with having to be “on” and not himself. He associates it with handsy women and jokes told too loud and splitting headaches. So it’s not something he really needs or wants to do for pleasure. When he does drink, it’s generally because he’s got something he needs to stop thinking about.
Doesn’t always work, honestly.
But tonight he’s drinking by himself, in a little dive bar in Roppongi, when the door opens and the tallest man Kurosawa has ever seen walks in.

Adachi has always been a little shy about touch. Not holding hands, perhaps, but every time Kurosawa has taken him in his arms, Adachi has stiffened. It’s made Kurosawa careful. He wants so badly for Adachi to be comfortable at every stage of their relationship, so he has been willing to put off other forms of physical affection until Adachi was ready. But that little brush of thumb brings back to his awareness all the things he still wants to do. He jerks his hand away, not wanting Adachi to see it all and be scared off again.
But Adachi reaches for his hand again. He shakes his head a little. “Kurosawa,” he says firmly. “It’s okay. I—I told you, I am okay with losing the magic.”

What unmitigated gall for him to say this, when it’s Wei Ying’s image that hovers behind Lan Wangji’s closed eyelids, when it’s Wei Ying’s words that seem to sit under his skin for hours afterward. Lan Wangji feels overwhelmed to the point of crying. He’s never felt so full of tragedy and frustration and helplessness. And now he has to tolerate Wei Ying on top of it all.
