They get coffee the next morning, him and Jon. It’s a nice place, quiet and decorated in a way that Ryan tries not to let remind him of summer long gone and flowers curled around microphone stands and patterned shirts and tour buses. No one ever seems to recognise him here and Ryan isn’t sure if that’s why he likes it so much.
Jon talks about his cats and music projects he’s been toying with and how he’s been trying to get better at baking. Ryan tells him about hikes and new guitars and the piano in his living room he’s been trying hard to master.
Spencer used to bake. No one could quite master the piano in the way Brendon did, at least not to Ryan. He shoves the thoughts away, deep down where they’ve festered for so, so long, until yesterday seemingly dredged them up.
Neither of them talk about yesterday, about the song or the email or the phone numbers that neither of them can bear to call yet can’t bear to delete either. Until they do.
OR
Brendon releases Local God. Jon decides Ryan can't just ignore this one. Alternatively, how a song, an email and an encounter at Trader Joes, lead to something Ryan thought could only be a thing of fiction.
