Eddie swallows as he watches Steve turn to bury his face in the pillow and yawn which – how does he manage to make even yawning sexy? “Yeah,” he agrees and prays to god Steve misses the choked off undertone. “Far from all of that.”
And as Steve shoots him a smile, a really happy smile, and then curls up on the mattress to sleep, closing his eyes, right next to Eddie, Eddie’s heart painfully tightens. Because, well, that was a fucking lie. He might be far from Hawkins and monsters but…
Heartbreak? That shit’s right there. Lying next to him in one of Eddie’s shirts. Close enough to touch. But not close enough to keep.

It wasn’t the right question. It wasn’t what he wanted to say. In fact, everything unfamiliar was within him at that moment. Like a part of him had just seen that angle in a prism, where everything came into sharp focus at once—cyan, fuschia, yellow, orange, green. It was a lot.
“Hey,” Robin said softly, because she knew him. She knew him. “Look at me. Yeah, it’s okay, look at me, Steve-o. Tell me… Would you?”

Summary
Steve’s shivering. Or maybe he’s trembling, he truthfully isn’t entirely sure himself, but the bag in his hands as they sit on the hood of Eddie’s van for a better view is rustling from the movement. He tries not to consider Eddie reacting poorly, thinking that he’s trying to take this memory he’d shared with him weeks ago and make it their own because he’s not. He wants Eddie to have something tangible of a memory he otherwise can’t hold, that’s all.
He’s also in love with Eddie, but that’s a separate thought.
