Beautiful cerulean eyes shot up and caught on slitted pupils. They dilated—which the young man definitely noticed. Nobody looked at ordinary brown irises and dotted pupils with that level of shock and awe. No matter how perfectly their makeup was done.
This mundane could see his true appearance.
He knew of the Shadow World, yet Magnus has seen neither hide nor hair of him before now. Who are you? Curiosity and excitement stirred in his chest. Cobwebs brushed away as the rusty old cogs in Magnus’s heart moved. It’s been a long time since he was truly interested in someone.
Magnus’s glistening lips spread into a sly smile when the other man’s gaze rapidly flickered down and away and back, giving the impression he was flustered. Maybe tonight won’t be so bad after all.

Now, with his chances all run out, Remus is sent to Hawkings Independent School as a last-ditch effort to clean up his act. There he meets the very people who will set up the rest of his life, and is forced to confront the pieces of himself he'd long thought had been lost.
