Summary
The strange thing about Theo, Potter, was that he never saw himself the way I did. Thought he was ruined, broken, bad. But to me he was gold, always. Even when he cheated, even when he lied. Maybe especially then.
Or: The before, the during, and the aftermath of The Goldfinch, as told by Boris.

Summary
Russia, 1812. As Napoleon’s forces gather to the west, Theodore Decker arrives, tasked with assisting in the furnishing of the expatriate Barbour family’s new estate. But what begins as a simple commission becomes something far more perilous as Theo is drawn into the opulent decay of Russian high society, and with it, into the orbit of Count Boris Pavlikovsky—a man who will prove that all is, indeed, fair in love and war.
Or: an AU set during the French invasion of Russia.

Summary
For a long time afterward I wondered what would have happened if I’d stayed when he’d asked -- what would turn out to be the only time he ever would. In the end I didn’t, just mumbled something, I can’t remember exactly what, and disappeared into the cool blue of the airport, expecting to never to see him again.
(Or, Theo and Boris and fifteen years after.)

Summary
I’d gotten over the initial bliss of simply seeing Boris again and was transitioning to a more familiar, Boris-fueled exasperation, but I still found myself obsessing over the mere sight of him.
A missing scene from Antwerp.
