As the night grew colder and the walk home alone more treacherous, the two parted ways. It wasn’t the last time he saw Eva. They would meet in the same pub and he would hear her stories of arrogant businessmen, entitled customers, and exploitative men. When the bile would leave his throat from revulsion, he would offer her another drink and talk of his writing, which often made her laugh. He was so glad to have her as his friend.
It hurt all the more to hear that she was dying. Nearly gone.
