Psychomanteum, noun. A dimly-lit room containing a comfortable chair and a mirror angled so that it reflects only darkness, intended to communicate with spirits of the dead.
It is our privilege to welcome you back, one and all, for the Summer 2024 season at the London Athenaeum. As some of you will no doubt be aware, this past winter saw a spate of minor thefts, with one enterprising thief successfully removing a marble bust of the goddess Carpundia. We are pleased to report that the probate court proceedings are now complete, and all of the stolen artifacts have been returned to us. For safety reasons, we must now ask that all rosaries, japa mala, ojuzu, komboskini, misbaha and other similar prayer beads are left at the door and collected upon exit on account of one of our new acquisitions, a devil vitrified in a prism of glass, and the multiple recent incidents of attempted strangulation.
We are proud to present a slate of all new exhibitions and events, including the crown jewel of this season: an exhibition on the 170 year history of the Athenaeum itself by acting head curator Edwin Payne. This is the distillation of an extraordinary life’s work, and one not to be missed.

Summary
Welcome to Earth in the year 2046: here be monsters. Thirty years ago, a fissure opened in the ocean floor and unleashed creatures from another dimension upon an unsuspecting planet. When the world is ending, only two things can save it: the power of love - and giant, kaiju-fighting robots.
Crystal Palace fled the Jaeger Program after the death of her partner and now scratches out a living hauling stolen parts for illegal mech cage-fights in exchange for cash and the odd ration card. Summary

A chilling little story, to be sure, and a concerning one to have slunk its way to their doorstep, but Edwin wasn’t overly worried about it.
After all, the Wizard King only ate the hearts of the pretty ones.
He was Edwin Payne of Payne & Sons Bespoke Tailoring; he was always and only of Payne & Sons. Such was his station in life, a role he himself was tailor-made for. A role he fit like a drab but finely-crafted glove. And so it went—until the day a wizard and a witch conspired to turn his tidy little life upside down.

Summary
A voice behind Edwin says, “So, you come here often?” and Edwin shrieks.
It is not a manly shriek.
It is the shriek of something small, fluffy and hunted, which is how Edwin feels the vast majority of the time. Since the near-death by bullying incident at school, he’s had a visceral, full-body reaction to being startled. Unfortunately this means he accompanies his shriek by throwing his phone as hard he can into the opposite wall.
Even from a distance of eight feet away, Edwin can see the screen shatter into a delicate spiderweb of glass.
“Oh, bollocks,” he says.
“Woof,” says the naked chap in the sex swing behind him. “Bad times.”

“You’re pride is fine,” Shane griped out of habit and then had nuzzled closer, held Ilya tighter because he hated that he could make Ilya feel that way. “I’m sorry. I know I do it. It’s hard for me after so long. I love you so much, it scares me shitless sometimes.”
Shane's working on letting go of the control that's kept him and Ilya safe for the past ten years. The fact that he's Shane Hollander means that he's got a plan. The fact that he's with Ilya Rozanov means that plan involves fucking him stupid. And for once, Shane's kind of ready to be the one who drives Ilya out of his mind.

Summary
Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.

They live on the other side of the world to each other and have never met until one day fate, and a house exchange website, unites them.
All they really want is to get away from the mess they have made of their lives. To spend the holidays somewhere far away pretending to be the kind of person who doesn't split up with their boyfriend five days before Christmas.
Neither of them realise that this is the holiday that will change everything.
