As she tries to help him she quickly learns what Abaddon is and about the existence of the supernatural when Nathan returns as a ghost

Summary
Abaddon isn’t a demon, he’s a child raised in a cult and told his whole life that someday he would reach his true potential and his real form. He was rescued from the cult, but he’s been hospitalized ever since with severe PTSD and religious psychosis. No one has been able to get through to him yet, but Katherine has just been assigned to him as his new trauma therapist, and there might be hope for him after all.

Emma doesn’t actually find Joy again— at least, not surrounded by residents— until the power outage. She’s pulled off her jacket in deference to the heat, and even in the dimmer emergency lights, Emma can see sweat on her brow. It makes Emma a little insane, actually.
