Tae's voice comes out airy, a breath that demands an answer. Throwing caution out the window for the one second it takes him to step closer, Seokjin doesn't shy away from the question.
"Because I had to see you again."

This moment—being alone with Seokjin, having to say goodbye to him when morning comes, too soon even if time stops forever—has tormented him all night. He doesn’t want to spend their last hours together in misery. He’ll be strong for Seokjin, at least for one night, like Seokjin’s been strong for him his whole life.

Out of all the team members, Seokjin finds him the hardest to read. None of them are friends, he wouldn’t go that far, but some level of honesty is due if they’re going to risk their lives together. The fact that Taehyung tricks people for a living feels like swimming in murky waters, and Seokjin isn’t much of a swimmer to begin with.

“Taehyung, I love you,” Seokjin blurts out desperately, stepping into his space and cupping his face with both hands. Taehyung’s eyes flutter shut, the fresh tear that falls seeks shelter under Seokjin’s palm. “I’ll never stop loving you. How could you ever think otherwise?”
It’s Taehyung who avoids his gaze now, wet lashes sticking together. Seokjin runs his thumbs softly over them. Still so beautiful even when he cries.
“Your actions don’t match your words. You say you love me, but I haven’t felt loved in a long time.”

“Last, but definitely not least, the man everyone’s been waiting for,” the host nearly shrieks. “The one and only Kim Seokjin!”
A cacophony of roars washes over them. Though he feels the energy reverberating all around him, Taehyung’s senses only capture it faintly, like he’s underwater. His eyes land on Seokjin, the Kim Seokjin, Korea’s son-in-law, and his soul downright quakes. Given the choice, he’d probably like to be screaming at the top of his lungs too, if only he could remember how to make a sound.

Falling asleep with Taehyung in his arms, his back pressed to Seokjin’s chest, their mixed scents fueling the sweetest dreams… He can’t think of anything better, especially after a fun, yet long day.

The pebbles complain under the sole of his sneakers as he walks to the parked vehicle under the unforgiving sunlight. He’s forced to shield his eyes with one hand until his pupils adjust in order to see the driver properly. Seokjin’s throat goes dry, breath leaving him in one sharp exhale, when a familiar face comes into focus.

“So tell me again, what are we observing?”
Truth be told, Seokjin remembered. It wasn’t rocket science. But he knew Taehyung enjoyed explaining things, sometimes so much that his tongue tripped on all the words he wanted to say at the same time. Seokjin still understood him.
“A comet that only visits the Earth every 95 years.” Taehyung searched his backpack to pick up a notebook and check his notes. “Optimal time for observation is 4:12 a.m., according to the weather forecast.”
“We’ll be there,” Seokjin vowed, both hands on the wheel.
