This might sound crazy but around 20 years ago the world changed. There were portals everywhere where monsters appeared through these portals, alongside those monsters appeared the enhanced humanity or what they called, the Espers. Espers are those who were granted with great powers that fight the monsters and protect humanity.
But why would Ryo hide? Because he is not an esper, but a Guide. Espers, when they use too much of their power, their own power can devour them and this might cause their destruction and for them to be able to have a control over their power again, Guides were the ones whom you can call "guiding" the Esper's powers to stabilize.
Again, why would Ryo hide it? It's because he never dreamed of saving the world alongside Espers. He just wanted to be a normal human being, whose freedom is not being held by the government or someone else. He wanted to live a life he drew for himself and not someone else's sketch. That is why, he will never reveal that he is a guide.

Ryo couldn't deny that the alpha was extremely handsome, even more so up-close. He was also tall and strong based on how tight he was holding Ryo's wrist that it started to hurt a bit. Ryo didn't know if it was the other's perfume but he caught a kind of sandalwood scent, a fresh yet sweet scent that makes Ryo want to enveloped himself with. Ryo felt like he was drawn to other but maybe because he's just too good looking.

Oh…. the coach is hot? Like, probably in the top ten most handsome men Riku has ever seen in his entire life. He laughs at something Sakuya says - because that damn kid is always doing some kind of bit - and he’s pretty when he laughs, too. His eyes scrunch up and everything.
