Summary
Living as a divorced woman in the 1950s was vile, your family and friends couldn't believe you would follow through a divorce with your husband after a mere two years of marriage. You knew you always wanted the unique, independent life that was rarely accepted, and your previous husband was just another puppet's strings pulled by society. You knew the suburban wife gossip, and your family would nag you if you went home, so you used whatever was left you had to travel to a new state, a new life.
Francis had always been the eye candy of the company. Tall, slim, cocoa brown hair, a little built and tanned from all his work lifting cartons, any single woman in the office would go for him. Plus, his closed off aura left a sort of mystery for any woman to unravel, a feminine desire to boast that they knew what was behind his pretty, glum face.
So, it was a shock when he passed a small slip of paper, asking you if you had any time after work to grab dinner.
